‘Congestion is already estimated to cost the UK economy 20 billion pounds each year, well over 2 billion of this is a cost for the West Midlands alone’ (Department for Transport 2001).
The costs to the economy will continue to rise unless something is done to stem the trend. Company TravelWise in Wolverhampton aims to help companies and other organisations to improve the travel choices of their staff and in particular provide alternatives to single occupancy car journeys to work. Wolverhampton City Council works in partnership with Centro, National Express and local companies to offer many benefits to both employers and their staff.
